Benefits and Opportunities
I was paid during this internship 11.96 and hour. There was not any housing or meals provided. The city does not have typical internship positions. An intern must take a job with the city. I was provided opportunities to sit in on future plans for the department. I went to one meeting where they were deciding the needs for new athletic fields for the City of New Braunfels. There are opportunities to network within the parks and recreation field.
Achievments
I have gained knowledge of managing a team of 23 cashiers. The position of a River Activities Coordinator is highly political position. I was responsible for administering a new fee for people tubing the river. Every week I send a report of how the river booths performed to the Parks and Recreation Director, the assistant Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Manager and the head of Finance. I think that this helped me make my reports more professional looking. I do think this internship was very effective in teaching me how to better manage people as well as hone customer service skills.
